> frequently asked questions

id_1 has created a maelstrom of interest in the media branding industry, inevitably throwing up some questions along the way. Here's some answers to some that have been coming through to us, but if you're not seeing what you're after please email us  at , or fill in the form here.

Who's behind id_1?

id_1 has been created by Sony Award winning London-based producer Ben Neidle. As noise fusion's creative director, Ben has produced imaging and created the sonic identities for some of the world’s biggest and coolest radio and TV brands including Xfm, BBC Radio 1, Channel 4 and The Brit Awards. Now for first time he has made available commercially his vast collection of exclusive sound design elements, beds and FX for you or your producers to use on your radio or TV station.

How many cuts are on id_1?

There are 175 physical cuts on the package. Breaking that down,
there are 84 cuts of what we call 'electronic FX' (the more digital/artificial/synthetic sounding noise) and 46 'plugged and guitar' FX (bursts of guitars and amp sounds fused with extremely cool sounds). There are also 16 cuts of impacts, 7 beat punctuators, and 20 tracks of beds, beats and soundscapes/drones. The beds have all been produced with heaps of breaks, builds and mix-downs. So they can easily be edited to hell and back if need be, whether you want something highly produced or a stripped down cool drum loop. Check out the demo for examples of what all these different categories sound like.

Only 175 cuts?

Well, no actually. We got a little tired of some packages' overly generous description of what they termed a 'cut'. Often these turned out to be extremely short bursts of noise, tone, etc. We didn't want id_1 to be like that - our philophy is that every track should be a mini production in itself. So, every cut on the CD is fully produced and most consist of what many packages would probably call three or four cuts. So using that description, id_1 would have around 400 cuts!

Even better, each soundscape and bed is proceeded by an FX, again not listed as a separate cut. Plus the beds are liberally scattered with FX and breaks throughout.

All in all, we really don't think you'll be disappointed with the quantity of material on id_1, let alone the quality.

What format does id_1 come in?

The package comes on a dual format CD - audio and wav data. So you can either listen to the cuts in the usual way on a CD player, or drag and drop the cuts straight into you digital workstation of choice. The CD has, of course, been professionally designed and pressed, so there's no cheap dye layer to get damaged and give you grief in a couple of years time. If you still feel you want a backup, we can provide a single station with two copies of the package, at no extra charge, on request. Alternatively, we also provide FTP access to a download version of the package, in linear WAV.

I can't see the price listed anywhere on your website. How much is id_1?

The simple reason for this is that there isn't one single price for id_1. Pricing is set on a per station basis and is determined by factors such as territory, size of station and size of market. This means even small stations can afford the package. Get in touch - you may be pleasantly surprised.

How long is the licence and how does it work?

id_1 is normally licensed for one or two years, on a market exclusive basis. During that period, no one else in your FM TSA can use id_1. So, you get the chance to really stand out. The package can only be broadcast on the station its specifically been licensed to - other stations in your radio group, for example, can only use id_1 if individual licences have been purchased.

The website says that id_1 is designed for rock, alternative and CHR formats. I'm the production director of a dance/urban station - would the package work for us?

Yes. Though primarily aimed at CHR, alternative and rock stations, much of id_1 would fit very well with urban and dance formats. In fact, a dance/urban station in Oxford, UK - Oxford's FM 107.9 - was one of the first to purchase a licence and is delighted with the package. Essentially if you want your imaging to have an edge then, whatever your format, id_1 is for you.

I'm really into the id_1 demo, but can I hear some more before we purchase the package?

No problem. Get in touch and we'll see what we can do.

I do imaging for a soft AC station. Will id_1 work for us?

No. Forget about it. Go play some more James Blunt or something.

Anything planned to follow id_1?

Yup ;)
